Elvis owned guitar to be be auctioned: Dallas-based "Heritage Auction Galleries" plans to auction a 1958 Isana Black Pearl Acoustic guitar once owned by Elvis. The guitar was purchased during his stint in the army.
"Heritage" says it was one of less than 150 made that year and is believed to be the only guitar used by him while in the service. Years later it passed into the hands of friends and was eventually used to pay for tutoring fees by one of Elvis' secretaries. It's been on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in
Cleveland, Ohio, and at the Rock N Soul Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, for the past two years. Heritage Auction Galleries will hold their upcoming Signature auction on October 6 & 7, 2006, at their headquarters in Dallas, TX.

Not everyone "all shook up" over Elvis stage musical: Cashing in on the success of jukebox musicals such as “Mamma Mia” was clearly the main objective of the creative team behind “All Shook Up!” The national tour of the musical, which opened at the Opera House last night, features songs made famous by Elvis Presley, surely a guarantee of box-office gold. There’s only one problem: the story. Writer Joe DiPietro doesn’t have one. But that doesn’t stop anything in the first act. Within the first 10 minutes, we’ve blown through “Jailhouse Rock,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Roustabout” and “One Night With You.”
We’ve set up a situation where a sleepy little town where fun is forbidden gets woken up by a motorcycle rider with a song in his heart and a sneer on his face. We’ve only got 20 more songs to go. How hard can this be? Don’t ask. DiPietro writes himself into such a corner that he starts grasping at straws to get out: Let’s tear a page from “Hairspray” and talk about interracial relationships. We’ve already lifted the premise of “Footloose,” but let’s make it seem legit by adding something from that guy Shakespeare, he’s good for some mistaken-identity stuff. And then, because we have no idea where we’re going, let’s tie it all up with a bunch of weddings and humiliate the leading ladies by making them wear garish white dresses that look like they were rejected by the circus.
Statuesque Susan Anton the town’s femme fatale, and she’s obviously cast because she’s, well, very tall, and very beautiful. But by accenting her height by surrounding her with smaller actors, the director also draws attention to her stiffness on stage. This touring production boasts some pretty scenery and very sharp choreography, but few of the singers are first rate.
The sound in the Opera House is tinny and quite shrill; still you might not notice that our hero Chad (Joe Mandragona) seems slightly off pitch until you hear Natasha Yvette Williams. This girl can sing, and she doesn’t need to belt it out to be heard. “There’s Always Me” is absolutely heartbreaking, and made me want to clear the stage and let her sing everything else in the show alone. Very little is shaking in this musical mess, except maybe Elvis, shaking in his grave over what they’ve done to some great songs.

TCB Band In Performing Songwriter Magazine
The latest issue (#96) of the Performing Songwriter magazine features an article on Elvis' TCB Band in which James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Jerry Scheff and Ronnie Tutt talk about their memories of working with the King.
From the magazine's website:
August 1970, the Grand Ballroom of the Las Vegas Hilton. The lights are going down. Out of the darkness comes a torrent of drums, a guitar riff, a piano and eight background singers clapping in tent-revival rhythm. Elvis Presley appears from the wings, throws his shoulders around and flashes a photon beam of charisma. The world’s most coveted head of male hair flops across his forehead. As he starts to sing “That’s all right mama,” the crowd goes nuts. It’s more than all right. The 35-year-old superstar has made a triumphant return to live performance.
When he first hit in 1955, Elvis was like an H-bomb on shaky legs. In 18 months, he went from hillbilly singer to the biggest star in America, with a parade of No. 1 hits such as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “All Shook Up” and “Jailhouse Rock.” Along the way he upended our entire pop culture—from music to fashion to attitudes about race and sexuality.
By the early 1960s, Elvis was lured to Hollywood as aspirations of movie stardom replaced his desire to be the king of rock ’n’ roll. But he got trapped in a succession of inane films—the result of years-long manipulations of his notorious manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Finally, in 1968, Elvis had enough. In that landmark year, he reasserted himself in the televised ’68 Comeback Special, a new album, From Elvis in Memphis—and his first chart-topper in seven years, “Suspicious Minds.”
“I lost my musical direction in Hollywood,” Elvis told reporters on the eve of his return to live performance in Vegas the following year. “My songs were the same conveyer-belt mass production, just like most of my movies. Now I’m back and on the right road.” His traveling companions on the road to the Hilton were a group of ace musicians, including Glen D. Hardin (piano), James Burton (guitar), Ronnie Tutt (drums) and Jerry Scheff (bass). Dubbed the TCB Band—for “Takin’ Care of Business,” a slogan of Elvis’—they would ride with the king from his initial return to the stage in Vegas until his drug-addled last performances in 1977.

"Should 'Aloha From Hawaii' be in the Guinness Book of Records?: Currently of the FECC forum there is an interesting discussion about why Aloha is not in the Guinness Book of Records as the most watched television performance by a solo artist (for the record a larger global auduence watched the Live Aid concert). It appears the reason why not is similar to the dilemma with claimed sales of Elvis records...a lack of documented, rather than rhetorical, proof. Brian Quinn posted:
'I contacted the Guinness people about this some 3 years ago and they were happy to include the Aloha Concert as the Largest TV Audience ever for a solo perfomance. The problem is that they want documented proof and that is very difficult to find. Even EPE cannot help in this regard. If anyone can get such information then please contact the Guinness People. Elvis is being cheated out of this one at present.'

Good luck charm: Spirit of Elvis guides Susan Anton in ‘All Shook Up’: When Susan Anton was asked to join the touring company of “All Shook Up,” which arrives at the Opera House on Tuesday, she didn’t hesitate. “I’m 50-plus and they offered me the part of the hottie. I said ‘Thank you very much, I’m there’,” she says with a laugh. Anton, who became a celebrity in the ’70s, is no stranger to theater, having starred in the original company of “The Will Rogers Follies,” performed in Vegas for several years with her own band and just finished a long run of “Hairspray.”
But she has a special connection to “All Shook Up,” which features songs made famous by Elvis Presley. “I knew Elvis,” she says, “but not in the biblical sense, no. When I was first starting out in Vegas and he ruled the town, he and I were both backstage after a Tom Jones concert. It was getting late and things were winding down and he sat down on a little stool and read to me from Kahlil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet.’ He told me it was important because it dealt with people’s spiritual life. What amazed me was that as he read, he followed the lines of the sentences with his finger like a child. And I thought, ‘He’s just a sweet boy, a prisoner of his fame.’”

'Is Elvis alive?' conspiracy voted the #20 conspiracy theory: The idea that Elvis may not have died in August 1977 has been rated as the #20 conspiracy theory by the popular Australian television program, '20 to 1'. Strangely, (it's probably a conspiracy), theories above Elvis were that Prince Harry is not the son of Prince Charles and the death of Princess Diana.

Sessionist Al Casey Passed Away
Al Casey, guitarist and sessionist, passed away at 8:40 AM on Sunday September 17, 2006. He was a session player on the "'68 Comeback Special".
During the filming for Elvis' 1968 TV Special, a Red Hagstrom Viking II was borrowed for use by Elvis in several segments of the show including a stand up performance in front of a live crowd. The guitar through the years has been mistaken as his and often referred to as the "Elvis guitar". The guitar in fact belonged to Al Casey, who was one of the session players on that show.
Al said "the producer came to the studio players asking if anyone had something flashy that Elvis could use, that he thought it would make a better shot if he was playing something. I had the Hagstrom in my instrument trunk and offered it. During the two stand up live performances taped at NBC's Burbank studio on June 29, 1968 the amplifier used with Al Casey's Hagstrom was his Benson 200. Al said "once Elvis had a guitar to play, he needed an amp to play it through, and the Benson is what I had with me".
In addition to the 68 Special with Elvis Al also played on the soundtrack sessions at Western Recorders in 1968 that originally yielded Elvis' recently remastered hit "A Little Less Conversation". Years after the 68 TV Special Al sold the guitar for an undisclosed amount and it is now said to be owned by a casino corporation out of Illinois.
He was most noted for the records he made with producer Lee Hazlewood, with artists like Duane Eddy and Sanford Clark. He also has made numerous records on his own, reaching his commercial peak in the early 1960s, when a few of his instrumental (or mostly instrumental) surf and R&B-rock singles made the Top Hundred. Later Casey found a lot of work, though, as a session man, on recordings by artists including the Beach Boys, Eddy Arnold, and Frank Sinatra. He also ran a music store in Hollywood in the late 1960s, and played as a member of the band on Dean Martin's television show. In the mid-'90s he made a solo recording for Bear Family, Sidewinder.
New 1972 Release Announced
The latest release from the Straight Arrow import label, "Chaos In The Park" has been released. The label also announced their next project; they will release Elvis' August 23, 1972 Midnight show, recorded in Las Vegas. No release date has been given yet.

ElvisPedia.org
Since our Elvis A-Z section lost a little bit of our attention lately, we decided to take it away and replace it with an interactive Elvis Presley Encyclopedia, ElvisPedia.org. As the name suggests, it is completely based upon the very popular Wikipedia. The site is even using the same software.
So all Elvisologists: become an ElvisPedian and share your knowledge with the rest of us fans. Mind the word knowledge! We don't want opinions on that site - there are plenty of locations were you can drop those - we only want facts in ElvisPedia. Hopefully you will enjoy the site and together we can make it a huge success!

From the press release: What do you think of when someone mentions Elvis Presley? The music, the outfits, and his gyrations during his early career, of course. What you probably don't think of is his spiritual side, witnessed by notes he left in a Book of Mormon. A new movie, currently in production, shows that side of the "King".
On an Orem soundstage, production is underway on a new movie about Elvis Presley, but it will not focus on his music. Fans certainly remember the King in his early years -- young, vibrant. Prior to his death, Presley struggled with alcohol and drugs, which is well documented. What isn't, was his spiritual journey in those last years.
Rob Diamond, Director/Screenwriter: "Elvis was very interested in spirituality. To me he was a seeker of truth and knowledge, and any information that could make him a better man."
Rob Diamond has written and is directing "Tears of a King" which explores that part of Elvis' life. The movie looks at the period when Presley studied the teachings of the LDS Church. He was given a Book of Mormon and visited with missionaries a number of times.
The producers wanted to make this film, after examining Presley's Book of Mormon, which is now in the church's historical department. The Osmond family, which knew Presley, was given the book after his death, and donated it to the church.
On various pages throughout the book, are handwritten notes, believed to be written by Presley. He'd underlined the word "KING" throughout the book; and on one page, there is this: "My daughter Lisa needs this church. She's nine. Please help her..."
Rob Diamond: "My feeling of looking at the passages that he marked, were of a man that was hurting and sincerely wanted help from his maker."
The numerous handwritten notes-- though not authenticated as being Presley's-- were the inspiration for the film.
Rob Diamond: "And so, hopefully, when people walk away from the film they won't care whether he studied Mormonism, Judiasm or whatever, that they are drawn to a man who was seeking truth and peace in his life."
No one will ever know, however, whether Elvis indeed found it.
The movie "Tears of a King" will be released next year, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Presley's death.

Elvis' death voted the 5th most memorable event on TV: Elvis' death has been voted by Australian television viewers as the 5th most memorable event on TV. Not surprisingly, man's first step on the Moon and 9-11 filled the top two positions respectively. The assassination of JFK was #3 and the death of Princess Diana #4. The Beatles stunning visit to Australia came in at #19. The list of the top 20 moments on TV were announced last night on the TV special, "TV Turns 50 - The Events That Stopped A Nation". The special included a tribute to Elvis by both Human Nature (Don't Be Cruel) and David Campbell (Viva Las Vegas/Suspicious Minds). As Campbell sang, two large screens and five thin screens showed clips from various parts of Elvis' career.

50 years ago, a former truck driver from Memphis made his debut appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and by the time Elvis Presley had finished singing 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Hound Dog', 'Ready, Teddy' and 'Love Me Tender', it's safe to say rock and roll music had finally embedded its greasy mitts in the minds of suburban America. "Before Elvis, there was nothing," John Lennon later said, and while Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Little Richard might have something to say about it, Presley's mix of acceptable mama's boy and hormone crazed Southern rebel was able to eliminate the colour barrier and stake its claim on the popular consciousness.
Of course this was not Elvis's first TV appearance, he'd been on the Dorsey Brothers' Stage Show, Steve Allen and Milton Berle, but Sullivan was the stamp of show biz approval, and perhaps even the beginning of the end, as RCA Records and Hollywood sought to tame him even further. Presley would still make credible recordings in the days before joining the army, and notable ones afterwards, but seeing Elvis Presley on TV in 1956 was like capturing lightning in a bottle, and with the sole exception of Lennon and Co. on the same program eight years later, there's never been another moment quite like it in the annals of popular culture.

Elvis in Concert, Rare Exhibition of Memorabilia
Elvis Presley In Concert, the stunning theatrical production that reunites former band mates live on stage alongside Elvis, as he performs a full concert on a giant video screen in Christchurch on Wednesday 18 October at the Westpac Arena
The Elvis Presley In Concert concept is to present an authentic as possible Elvis Presley concert. The producers edited together a collection of Elvis' finest concert performances that exist on film and video and removed virtually all sound from the footage except for Elvis' vocal. The Elvis footage is projected on a large video screen. On stage a 16-piece orchestra and a group of Elvis' original band mates from the concert era of his career and other cast members perform live with the Elvis video.
All music heard in the concert production is performed live except for Elvis' voice. On either side of the Elvis performance screen are screens that carry live action from the stage. From the first song it's magic. You're at a real Elvis concert.
Part of this very special concert experience includes a rare exhibition of Elvis Presley memorabilia, which will be on show for ticket-holders from 6.30pm inside each venue. The exhibit includes original Elvis costumes and other concert-related items from the Graceland archives.
The Elvis exhibit items are priceless and as such are being escorted to Christchurch by Graceland curators and security. While in Christchurch the items will be kept in a climate controlled environment and guarded around the clock by a team of security guards.
Expect to see some of Elvis’ most recognisable costumes:
White Tunic (1969)
Tunic top from a white two-piece concert outfit Elvis wore in 1969. His two-piece outfits – tunic top and pants with long cloth belt – were inspired by the style of karate uniforms. (Karate was one of Elvis's longtime key interests.) These stage outfits were introduced in 1969 and were the predecessor to the famous and (and ever more elaborate through the years) jumpsuits that were introduced in 1970.
Shirt/Pants/Belt Ensemble (1970)
Red puffed-sleeve shirt, black pinstriped pants, red/black leather studded belt with chains. An ensemble featured in the on-stage rehearsal segment of the concert film Elvis, That's The Way It Is (MGM, 1970). A photo of Elvis in this outfit is featured on the original movie poster, which is also part of the exhibit.
That's The Way It Is Concert Jumpsuit – White with Beaded Fringe (1970)
One of many concert jumpsuits from 1970. One of several featured in the concert film Elvis, That's The Way It Is (MGM, 1970). Performances from this film, some of which feature Elvis wearing this outfit, are an extensive part of the Elvis performance footage presented in the current Elvis Presley In Concert touring production.
Elvis on Tour Purple Concert Jumpsuit & "Owl" Belt (1972)
One of several jumpsuits Elvis wore in the concert film Elvis on Tour (MGM, 1972). Purple with silver studding. Matching belt with "owl" design on the buckle. Also part of the exhibit are a casual shirt Elvis wore in the film and an original Elvis On Tour movie poster. Some footage from Elvis On Tour is featured in the current Elvis Presley In Concert touring production.
"Madison Square Garden" Concert Jumpsuit & Cape (1972)
White with brass studs and gold satin accents (1972). One of the jumpsuits Elvis wore during his triumphant multi-show, sell-out engagement at Madison Square Garden in New York, June 1972. This outfit is featured on the cover of the soundtrack album.
Aloha from Hawaii "Arrival" Suit (1973)
Off-white corduroy jacket and print shirt Elvis wore during the "helicopter arrival" sequence of his 1973 television special Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii. In its live and tape-delay original broadcasts in 1973, the TV special was seen by 1.5 billion people in 40 countries. The soundtrack album and an original audience ticket from this performance are exhibited along with the arrival outfit. Performance footage of Elvis in his famous American Eagle jumpsuit from this special is featured extensively in the current Elvis Presley In Concert touring production.

Details Holding Down The Fort
Here are the details of the upcoming Madison release "Holding Down The Fort". The label will soon release a double CD set titled "The Elvis Presley Show - Holding Down The Fort" featuring the much-heralded Fort Worth, Texas concert from June 3, 1976. About five years ago Madison issued portions of this show, unfortunately far from complete and in lesser sound quality. However, this 2006 collection will be taken from a first generation soundboard recording in excellent sound quality. The recording is not without any flaws as there are quite a few feedbacks during '' C. C. Rider '', a tape stretch at the end of side A damaged "Jailhouse Rock," and the recording of "Hound Dog" was stopped early on. These have been replaced by the same tunes done just one month later in the same building. However, the incomplete June performances are included as a bonus for the "soundboard collector" in all of us. And the packaging will include a 16 page, illustrated booklet with relevant text. But there's more!
For the first time, this "30th Anniversary Edition" will feature all the music from the " pre-show", with Joe Guercio and the Hot Hilton Horns, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, and The Sweet Inspirations. All these performances will be as presented that night in Fort Worth. Highlights from the first CD include " When The Saints Go Marching In " and "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the Stamps, and the Sweet Inspirations energetic vocals on " Philadelphia Freedom, " " Lady Marmalade " and a medley of Stevie Wonder hits. The stand up comedian Jackie Kahane's set was not recorded and will not appear on this release.
Elvis' concert itself will feature all the tracks previously released on Madison's Cajun Tornado, but this time in much better sound quality from the first generation soundboard recording and in unbroken running order. Some of the previously unreleased performances will include " If You Love Me (Let Me Know), " " Heartbreak Hotel, " " Help Me " and many more. Don't miss the dynamic 1976 return of The Elvis Presley Show to Cowtown!

Elvis' Cup For Sale
This article was filed under "Wacky and Weird" on the original site we found it.
We've eagerly been waiting here at TMZ for our chance to own a cup that may (or may not) have been used by Elvis Presley. Now that chance to spend all of our hard earned cash on a Styrofoam cup has arrived.
For a starting bid of $56,000, you too can own the world famous Elvis Cup. That's right -- for the price of a luxury German sedan, you can own the cup the King himself allegedly drank from at a 1977 concert.
Wade Jones, the man who saved the cup from obscurity, has already auctioned off three teaspoons of water from the the cup for $455 back on Christmas Day 2004. Now Wade is going for the whole enchilada and selling the cup that has brought him so much joy over the years.
Now all we need is an Elvis plate and some Elvis utensils and we'll have ourselves an Elvis dining set.
Unused 1956 Concertticket Fetches High Price At Auction
An unused 1956 Elvis concert ticket has netted a trio of siblings US$1,623.98 on eBay. The ticket belonged to their mother, Ginny Jevack, 64, of Painesville. A snowstorm on Nov. 23, 1956, prevented her from attending the concert at the Cleveland Arena. She originally bought the ticket for $2.
The ticket went on the Web site a week ago, at first only garnering a $50 bid. It was the lone bid for most of the week. As Saturday's 3 p.m. deadline loomed, the item picked up interest and in the last few minutes jumped from $1,350 to the final winning bid.

Highlights were an interview with Freddy Bienstock, Ernst's series on his Sun project and an article called "Hometown Hero", about the concerts in Tupelo in 1956. Of course there are the usual items like news, letters, the revisited series and the reviews.Source: Magazines: The Man And His Music / Updated: Sep 7, 2006

SANTA ANA, Calif. —After outfitting and making clothes for the likes of many top musicians – including Billie Joe Armstrong, Jessica Simpson, Davey Havoc, The Living End and The Brian Setzer Orchestra – Steady Clothing is proud to announce an exciting new collection based on the legendary King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Partnering with Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE) of Memphis, Tennessee, the Elvis Presley collection launched during the MAGIC show in Las Vegas last month.
Steady Clothing’s signature embellishments, finishes, custom buttons, unique fabrics and custom screen-printing make it the ideal choice for the Elvis Presley clothing collection. The new line features this classic American icon with an updated feel. From the die-hard Elvis music fan to the fashion conscious, the collection is sure to have something for everyone.
“Elvis' sense of fashion and Steady Clothing's creativity and inspiration are a natural fit. We are very pleased to have Steady Clothing represent our brand,” says Beth Hooker, Domestic Licensing Manager, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.
“We are very excited to be partners with Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. and to be associated with such a celebrated American icon,” says Eric Anthony, President of Steady Clothing. “The Elvis Presley image will fit right in with Steady’s classic look and retro-inspired fashions.”
From the jet-black pompadour in the '50s to the studded jumpsuits in the '70s, Elvis' fashion sense was nearly as cutting-edge as his music. The Elvis Presley Collection by Steady also capitalizes on the consumer's desire to present an image with clothing. The men's line includes short-sleeved button-up shirts, tees and jackets, all with exceptional details and custom embellishments. The women’s line mirrors that of the men’s only with a fitted feel and a sexier look. The women’s line features such items as woven tees, hoodies and button-up tops.
The Elvis Presley collection will be available worldwide to resort and gift stores, to alternative and specialty boutiques, and to select department stores. The full collection debuted during the MAGIC Marketplace in Las Vegas last month. MAGIC is the nation’s premier, twice-yearly fashion trade show.
